Scott Electric Company puts the safety of its employees and customers first. Our safety record is exceptional, resulting in an industry leading Experience Modification Rate of .46. Our comprehensive HSE program includes Basic Safety Training, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Substance Abuse Program, Behavioral Based Safety Program, Incident Review, First Aid Management, Hazard Awareness program as well as Client Site Specific Safety Training.

Training
All employees are required to take the initial five-hour basic safety training course, and two-hour refresher course annually through The Contractors Safety Council of The Coastal Bend. Newly hired employees must attend the Scott New Hire Orientation safety program with refresher annually thereafter as well as two hours of “in house” safety training consisting of JLG/Scissor Lift, Scaffolding, GFCI(Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter), Power Drill, Fire Extinguisher, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Forklift, Bucket Truck, Rigging and Signaling, and VPP(Voluntary Protection Program) and Lockout/Tagout(LOTO) training.

Hazard Recognition and Job Hazard Analysis
Scott Electric Company and Scott Air Conditioning have maintained the best safety program in South Texas by utilizing tools like Job Hazard Analysis(JHA) to analyze their scope of work, recognize hazards, and eliminate them before starting each job scope or task. Scott Electric Company and Scott AC & Heating also participate in our hazard recognition “trigger card” program. Employees are encouraged through prize incentives to fill out yellow “trigger cards” whenever they see a potential hazard. By recognizing a hazard that could cause an accident, the employees reduce the chance of having an incident or accident. If the employee cannot correct the hazard on the spot they are asked to get with a safety representative to have the hazard analyzed and corrected.

Substance Abuse Program
Scott Electric Company employees are members of the DISA drug testing consortium including hair follicle testing. Drug and alcohol testing is done upon hire, as well as on a random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident basis.

Safety Committee and Incident Review
Scott Electric Company has a full time Safety Director and several full time safety representatives that continually monitor all of our work sites to ensure that we are following all OSHA guidelines and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations. Daily and weekly safety meetings are conducted by our safety professionals and job foremen. Our safety committee is made up of management and employees that review accidents and incidents to determine the root cause of the incident/accident. We then take the necessary actions to correct the problem. Scott Electric Company’s goal is for ALL employees to go home to their families in the same condition that they came to work for any given work day. Management sets an annual goal of 0 incidents for each year, and we are pleased to say that we met this goal in 2006, 2008, & 2010.

Participation in VPP
Scott Electric Company is proud of our participation in OSHA’s Voluntary Participation Program known as VPP. We are OSHA Star Worksite certified at Valero Bill Greehey Corpus Christi Refinery and Valero Three Rivers Refinery in Three Rivers, Texas. Our employees audit our entire worksites at both refinery locations by using audit teams made up of supervisors and hourly workers to maintain a safe work environment. We also have 3 Special Government Employees(SGE) on staff that assist OSHA when auditing new work sites that are seeking their VPP Star Worksite status.
